Somerset Court of Cherryville Assisted Living hosted a Veterans Day celebration where they honored residents who served in the armed forces.
Cherryville Mayor H.L. Beam, Councilwoman Jill Puett, American Legion Post 100, and other community members were all in attendance.
Residents Dale Leagan, Robert Gore, Claude Dixon and Harold Harris were honored at the event with certificates from Patriot Angels, and pens from the American Legion.
“We are so glad that we could put together this event for our veterans,” said Somerset Court of Cherryville Life Enrichment Coordinator, Katie Lutz. “It’s heartwarming to see them so happy.”
Following Mayor Beam’s speech thanking the residents for their service, the American Legion conducted the Flag-Folding Ceremony which explains the meaning behind the 13 folds of the flag.
“The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veteran departing our ranks, and who gave a portion of his or her life for the defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world,” said Puett as she read the flag ceremony script.
Following the ceremony, members of the American Legion lined up to salute to their fellow veterans.
“We wanted to hold this event because we believe in celebrating our residents,” said Somerset Court of Cherryville Executive Director, Stacy Farmer. “These residents deserve to be recognized for their sacrifices.”
